La Rhune 900m
The first hill on the route which dominates the first day. A small mountain railway takes tourists to the top.
Pic D'Orhy 2017m
The first 2000m hill on the route. A good little scarmble can be had by sticking to the exposed ridge.
Pic des Trois Rois 2446m
This peak lies above the pass to Lescun opposte Pic D'Anie. It offers a good route through the karst with some scrambling to the summit which is adorned by a toy castle.
Pic du Midi D'Ossau 2884m
This iconic peak involves Grade III climbing from the hut (up and down). I borrowed a helmet from the hut due to the risk of rockfall.
Vignemale 3289m
Another iconic peak which can be ascended via the glacier on its Southern flank. This is now devoid of crevasses. The route of ascent is not that obvious, following ledges to the highest point.
Monte Perdido 3355m
The normal route approaches from the South, but the Northern route from the bivouac hut is far superior. The key passage is easy enough in the dry but involves Grade II+ climbing.
Tuca de la Forquetta Norte 3011m
This is a little peak reached by a fine narrow arete that is easier than it looks as difficulties can be avoided on the side of the ridge. It offers spectacular viewsd of Posets opposite.
Posets 3369m
This is a tremendouns mountain with spectacular folded rocks. I went up the Southwest ridge which involves Grade III- climbing and is a very fine crest.
Aneto 3404m
The highest peak in the Pyrenees is easy enough but does involve crossing some very loose rock and can be icy.
Tuc di Marimanha 2679m
The highest point of a shattered ridge which provides relief from the steep slog up from Salardu.
Pic de Moredo 2766m
A very fine peak that looks much more difficult than it is. The final ridge can be climbed direct on perfect granite.
Mont Roig 2864m
A commonly ascended peak from the bivouac hut at its base. There are no special dificulties.
Pic D'Estats 3143m
The highest peak at the Eastern end of the Pyrenees and justifiably popular.
Pic de l'Estagnas 2615m
A little frequented peak which is quite tricky. I retreated just short of the summit.
Pic Carlit 2921m
A very popular peak often traversed as part of the HRP. It is loose and steep but otherwise presents no particular difficulties.
Piolet des Bastiments 2880m
The highest point of a long barren ridge .
Pic du Canigou 2785m
Another iconic peak which is very popular. The route up the couloir involves some loose rock but makes a good way up.
Roc de Sant Salvador 1235m
A delightful protected route leads to the summit of this wooded hill.
